Bridge Project

The Bridge Project focuses on maintaining and enhancing one of Gainesville’s most beloved park landmarks—the scenic bridge connecting the trails and green spaces near Wilshire and Ivey Terrace Parks. Volunteers come together to clean, repaint, and repair the bridge, ensuring it remains safe, beautiful, and accessible for everyone who enjoys walking, running, or taking in the peaceful views.

Beyond upkeep, this project symbolizes the Foundation’s mission to connect people, both to nature and to one another. Each restoration effort reflects the community’s shared pride and commitment to preserving the charm and history of Gainesville’s parks.

The Stone Bridge in Ivey Terrace Park is historic to our community; thousands of senior pictures and wedding photos have been taken with this iconic landmark as the backdrop over the last 85 years.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), as part of the New Deal, camped and worked at Ivey Terrace Park during the Great Depression, building this structure. The Foundation would like to see this bridge restored to its former glory and make it accessible to park visitors.

Restoration efforts will include pouring new concrete foundations, a concrete arch to encapsulate the old failing corrugated steel pipe, and a new reinforced concrete deck slab between the stone walls. Project costs are estimated at $50,000 and the Foundation is seeking sponsors and donors to make this project a reality.
